AFSC has frequently provided leadership in addressing global peace issues as they emerged and is currently providing leadership to oppose war on Iraq and the establishment of a permanent war society. In addition KC AFSC addresses a range of issues through weekly "coffeehouse" discussions of emerging issues.

November 22: The Second Scramble for Africa’s Mineral Wealth --Alfred Kisubi. In 1884, King Leopold of Belgium called a conference to divide up the African continent. Only Europeans attended. Today one of the biggest differences is that China is also involved. A former Kansas City resident and native Ugandan, Alfred is currently a professor at U. Wisconsin Oshkosh. He has recently traveled to Uganda. Alfred will focus primarily on East Africa: Ruanda, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Darfur and the Sudan.

November 29: Justice, peace and freedom: Live Music -- Bob & Diana Suckiel. Bob & Diana, among the founders of the old Fool killer, will sing songs about the civil war to iraq--eugene v debs to bush--in spoken word and song -- spirituals, blues, rags, folk songs, country, western, labour, old time music and a little bit more. Bob and Diana have appeared on pbs movie "amazing grace music in america" cica 1976--winnepeg canada music fest.--long steel rails music fest, in ely nevada--vancouver folk fest with utah phillips---champlain folk music festival---peoples poetry gathering, in new york city--hosted music shows on kcur and kkfi for 15 years--blue collar workers, singers, historians, lovers and rabbles rousers.
