September 1: no meeting.
September 8: Engage, Transform, Resolve, Manage: What Helps in Conflict – Don Ivens. Do practitioners who wade into conflict situations really know what they are doing. Donill talk about possibilities and expectations for helping conflict be an opportunity for growth. Don is a staff member at the Center in Independence.
September 15: Pro-Vote is more than election work -- Lindsay Walker. Missouri Progressive Vote Coalition is a coalition of labor and community groups that works on protecting Social Security, issues around school vouchers and health care. Lindsay, who works with Pro-Vote and is on the local program committee of AFSC, will speak about issues likely to be hot in this year’s Missouri legislature.
September 22: Why are people fighting in the Sudan? -- Malang Mabior & Thuc Juag came to the United States 5 years ago from the Sudan. They will talk about the causes and origins of the conflict there.
September 29: Dominican Republic -- Steve Hall & Bev Chapman. (details later)
